| HIV
/ AIDS Training Program Spreads Throughout Ethiopia
AIMS
News: Posted 7/1/2003
We recently received an email from our
on-site representative in Ethiopia related to follow
up on HIV/AIDS training done at their request last year.
For
several years now, AIMS has partnered with the Evangelical
Church Fellowship of Ethiopia, representing 97% of the
evangelical believers in this country. AIMS has trained
national pastors and missionaries, and based on that
instruction, our ministry partners have shared the Gospel
with great success among unreached people groups, including
those that are predominately Muslim, throughout Ethiopia.
As a result, 95,000 people have become Christians, and
they are being nurtured and discipled by 905 new churches,
planted strategically to conserve and multiply this
great harvest.
Ethiopia
is home to 10% of the world's total AIDS population. |
Last
year, AIMS responded to requests to initiate a training
program for HIV/AIDS. Ethiopia is home to 10% of the
world's AIDS population. Evangelical churches see this
as an open door for ministry, not only to those with
the disease, but also to their families and to AIDS
orphans.
AIMS
responded by providing one whole track of AIDS-related
education at our training conferences. Since then, according
to our on-site representative, the ECFE's "HIV
department is doing very well, and it has a progressive
plan to reach other local areas' with the same information.
In effect, our Ethiopian partners have taken AIMS' HIV/AIDS
training program and have ìindigenized it."
That means they have adapted it specifically to fit
their culture, and they are using it effectively throughout
Ethiopia.
