Note: The following testimonies were included
in an official report provided to AIMS by the Evangelical
Churches Fellowship of Southern Ethiopia (ECFSE) who
have launched a full-scale initiative to minister to
the unreached in the Ethiopian Rift Valley.
" Mohammed" was receiving
training on how to spread other religions when Jesus
appeared to him in a vision. Like many who convert to
Christianity, Mohammed was treated as an outcast after
he accepted Christ. His friends and neighbors persecuted
him.
"My
faith in God has brought me to a true fellowship with
the true God, but it has also brought me problems. My
house was burned and looted. My son has disowned me,
and he is living with people who plot violence against
me...Yet, what is going on around me does not discourage
me. I always look forward. I am very proud of my sufferings,
for I will eventually see my area saved as the Lord
promised."
"Faraji" had only been a
Christian for seven months when he gave his testimony
to the ECFSE.
"I'm
happy that I've got eternal life. It is wonderful. I
am free from the addiction of alcohol. I always feel
happy regardless of the severe persecution of my relatives
who threaten to kill me with sticks and spears. But
we know that the God of the heavens and the earth is
our redeemer. Hallelujah!"
"Ayasha" was one of only
seven Christians among the 220,000 unreached people
in her district within the Rift Valley. One day, she
became sick. After two weeks, her husband took her to
a medical clinic, but they could not help her. Within
a short time, she died. Many people from neighboring
villages had gathered to mourn her death when a missionary
arrived to comfort the family. He ordered everyone to
be quiet and began to pray for Ayasha.
Her
husband reported: "I was holding her leg to prepare
her body to be put in the coffin when he prayed for
her. After a prayer of about ten minutes, she started
to breathe again. God does very wonderful things. Her
life was restored by prayer."
